Do you work with children living in a family with a member in prison? About 160,000 children a year have a parent sent to custody. Each year fewer children experience their parents’ divorce than those who experience the imprisonment of a parent.

This training is around the impact of imprisonment of families, and how practitioners can support both the families and their own practice. The day’s training (6 hours) includes DVDs, quizzes, case studies etc, and is participative and interactive, and feedback has been very positive – the training has been delivered to several groups of children’s centre staff, YOT workers, health visitors and other practitioners in the community over the last 3 years. It is approved by the DCSF and MoJ.  It also fits in with LAAs and The DCSF/MoJ Framework for improving the local delivery of support for the families of offenders.

Aims and Objectives:

  • Identify the vulnerability factors for families with a member in prison.
  • Consider the impact for each family member.
  • To raise awareness of the particular issues for children living with a family member in prison.
FREE - There will be no charge for this training.

This training is applicable to all agencies that work with children, young people and families.

Places are limited and applicants who are successful in securing a place on the training course will be notified week commencing March 15th 2010.
