Celebrating LIFE
Leisure, Instruction, Fitness, Education (LIFE) CIC aims to promote the benefits of an active lifestyle, improve self-esteem and provide positive activities for young people.
LIFE specialises in delivering performing arts, urban culture and active recreation activities. Workshops delivered by LIFE can include circus skills, graffiti art, street dance, accredited sports leadership awards (ASDAN), multi sports coaching and Parkour. Parkour is a dynamic art form through which young people learn self control, discipline and have a raised awareness and respect of their local surroundings.
Doncaster CVS has been involved with LIFE from an early stage. We have worked with the group to help them define their social objectives and put together a constitution. In addition our staff supported LIFE to develop a business plan, register as a company and to source funding to enable the delivery of summer holiday activities.
The group are now working towards sustainability and looking to increase their earned income. Doncaster CVS has helped LIFE to put in place a charging policy to ensure that the sessions would be sustainable in the future. The group has also undertaken procurement training and has secured a number of small contracts with the local authority and local charities. This successful delivery has led towards LIFE CIC being awarded runner up in the Innovation category in the Yorkshire and Humber Social Enterprise Awards. LIFE is also developing a workbook that will integrate Parkour into the national curriculum and be available for schools to buy.
