Social Enterprise

Social enterprises are businesses that trade goods and services and then use the surpluses for social and environmental goals. They operate in a wide range of industries such as horticulture, recycling, transport and childcare and can take a wide variety of legal forms suitable to their individual circumstances.

A social enterprise can be set up by individuals, groups or even entire communities. They are often started by people who see that something needs doing to fill a gap left by the public or private sector.

Alternatively maybe you just want to do something different from your everyday job and have a good idea that will also give something back to your community. There are thought to be over 55,000 social enterprises in the UK, contributing billions of pounds to the UK economy as well as offering wide ranging social and environmental benefits.
