Marisa is currently Chief Executive of Doncaster West Development Trust (formerly Conisbrough & Denaby Development Trust), which she established in 1993 with the support of local people. Marisa has been involved in social enterprise and community development for over 25 years; she is a former member of the Enterprising Doncaster Board, the Community Empowerment Network Steering Group and was also Chair of the Community & Social Enterprise Partnership and the South Yorkshire Open Forum.

With a degree in Fashion & Textile Design Lai is also a qualified Primary School Teacher who has lived in Doncaster for nearly 40 years and has been involved in the local community & voluntary sector since 1992. She is a founder member of the Doncaster Chinese Women’s Group and, as a former Chair of the Black & Minority Ethnic Key Strategic Partnership, has significant experience of working within local strategic partnerships. Lai is currently involved in establishing the Doncaster Central Learning Centre.
