Doncaster Council’s Draft Budget Published

28th January 2011

The Mayor’s budget proposals for Doncaster Council, which needs to identify £71m of savings in the next 4 years, are to be discussed by the Cabinet next week. The full budget report is now available to download.

The report sets out the Mayor’s 2011/12 Revenue Budget proposals within the context of a 4 year Financial Strategy and the national Comprehensive Spending Review (C.S.R.) for the period 2011/12 to 2014/15.

Doncaster Council has received a below average Government settlement for 2011/12, which provides for a reduction in formula grant of 11.3%, compared to the national average of 9.9%. This has been partly mitigated by £2.1m of Transition Grant in 2011/12, however, the Council still needs to deliver £71m of savings over 2011/12 to 2014/15. It intends to achieve this through a Change Programme, other efficiencies across council departments and changing the service offer to residents.

The existing proposals amount to £61m and further work is required to deliver the additional savings in 2012/13 and 2014/15.

The report also includes details of cuts to local Voluntary and Community Sector organisations funded by the Council (see Annex G).
