Vox Pop Event – The Dome Doncaster - 25 September 2010 from 11am to 4pm

24th August 2010

Event Overview

  • Vox Pop at the Doncaster Dome on the 25 September 2010 is a consultation event that will provide the opportunity for children and young people (aged 13-19) to raise a wide range of issues, with a selection of relevant professionals and agencies. The main issues that will be covered include: Health, Safety, Transport, Government, local Council, and the Children Young People and Families Service itself. It will also help to inform the agenda and priorities for the Doncaster Youth Council over the next year (2010-2011), and inform the Doncaster Children and Young People’s Plan.
  • A group of young people aged 13-19, have been recruited as a steering/planning group for the event, who meet twice monthly at Elmfield House. The group consists of several Doncaster Youth Councillors, young people aged 15 – 19, who were elected to represent the 17 secondary school catchment areas. These, along with 8 young people from minority and under represented groups, establish a full Youth Council for Doncaster of 42 Young People. The group also includes representatives from the Youth Inclusion Programme, and other interested young  people from the wider community. The planning group has been involved in every step of the process, including all the suggested timings, layouts and publicity for the event.
  • The daylong event will have a number of opportunities for children and young people (aged 13-19) to both meet and question individuals and organisations, as well as try out a number of positive, sporting and creative activities. The day will culminate in a Question & Answer session in the afternoon, with children and young people (aged 13-19) putting a range of pre-selected questions to a panel of invited guests. The Panel will include The Children’s Commissioner for England, along with representatives from Parliament, Doncaster Council, South Yorkshire Police, the NHS and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.
  • Vox Pop will utilise the facilities at the Dome as well as three Youth Service mobile units, to maximise the opportunities available on the day. It is hoped that these will include: live music, DJ workshops, info stalls and surgeries, arts & crafts, the Promethean multiple-answer question system, workshops, games consoles, sports activities, and the Question & Answer session. As the event is aimed at Children and Young People (aged 13-19) and the issues that effect them, the following agencies and organisations may find it beneficial to have some input:  Children, Young People & Families Service, Schools (primary through to secondary), voluntary groups, clubs and societies, and other Doncaster Council agencies.

The Forum and the Conference room will be used as a market place area for organisations/agencies to share information and consult with children and young people aged 13 to 19. Exhibition spaces are available for booking on a first come first served basis. For more information, read the Vox Pop Event Document.
