Carer’s Emergency Contact Scheme
13th July 2010
Do you care for an adult? What would happen if you had an accident or emergency? The Carer’s Emergency Contact Scheme can help.
Are you a carer?
Carers are people who voluntarily look after a friend or relative who needs support because of age, physical or learning disability, or illness including mental illness.
Are you worried about what would happen if you had an accident or emergency?
If so, the Carer’s Emergency Contact Scheme offers peace of mind that the person you care for will be looked after in an emergency.
How do I join?
Contact Doncaster Partnership for Carers on 01302 531333 for an application form.
What happens next?
Your details will be entered onto a database held by Doncaster Council’s Corporate Alarm Monitoring Centre. You will be sent a credit card size card with a unique pin number. This identifies you in an emergency; no personal details are printed on the card.
Once you have joined the scheme you will be contacted by housing21 to arrange a visit to you and the person you care for. This meeting will agree a care plan to be followed in an emergency.
What happens if there is an emergency?
If you are involved in an accident or an emergency the phone number on the card is called. Staff at the Alarm Centre are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they will contact your nominated back up support.
What happens if my nominated back up support isn’t available?
If we cannot get in touch with the people you have nominated housing21 will deliver the agreed emergency care plan.
