Doncaster CVS Finance Training Programme (Apr 10 – Sep 10)

These courses make up a natural progression in learning from start to finish. They also work as stand alone courses - you can pick only the bits of training you need.

Course 1    Bookkeeping Skills and Financial Controls (22 Apr 10 @ DCVS)
This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to maintain control of the financial resources of your organisation. You will learn about financial controls and procedures, keeping accurate books, maintaining accounting records and creating basic financial reports.

Course 2    Managing Finances in the Third Sector (20 May 10 @ DCVS)
This course is essential for anybody, who works in a charitable organisation or social enterprise and is responsible for finances. It will provide an overview of some of the key laws, regulations and other issues affecting financial management in our sector. You will learn the techniques and practical skills necessary to manage non-profit finances efficiently and effectively. Attending this course can help participants and their organisations both flourish and grow and avoid the financial pitfalls that can cause so much stress and heartache.

Course 3    Budget and Cash Flow Forecasting Skills (15 Jun 10 @ DCVS)
The aim of this course is to give you a deeper level of skills and confidence to use budgets as planning and monitoring tools. You will see the value of budgets and cashflow forecasts to any organisation and how they can enable your group to take more control of its development.

Course 4    Understanding Charity Financial Accounts (15 Jul 10 @ DCVS)
This course will help you understand and interpret your annual accounts. You will learn why these accounts can seem different from your own reports. You will find out how they contain important indicators relating to financial performance, fund management and reserve levels.

Course 5    Full Cost Recovery in Practice (29 Sep 10 @ DCVS)
This course will start with the theory of Full Cost Recovery. It will then show you how to work with a relatively simple and useable FCR model that community accountants have developed for people who may not be finance specialists. Topics covered include identifying costs, pricing, restricted funds, what to include in FCR and links to the budget. You will learn about some of the challenges facing Third Sector groups as they attempt to cover their full costs. This course will help you think strategically about your services, your finances and your capacity.
