Fire Service Proposals to Balance Budget
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue (SYFR) is proposing changes to its frontline services, in a bid to absorb huge Government funding cuts of up to £10 million per year by 2015. The only change to frontline cover proposed for the Doncaster district is the removal of the retained crew at Edlington station. A public meeting is being held so that residents can voice any concerns about the proposals.

National Minimum Data Set – Social Care (NMDS – SC); are you engaged

Budget result for volunteer drivers
All drivers who use their vehicle for work or volunteering will now be able to claim 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles, an increase from the current rate of 40p. In addition, an allowance of 5p per passenger per mile that is already available to business drivers will be extended to volunteers

New research from the Third Sector Research Centre has studied the crucial role that the estimated 600,000 or more small community groups can play in delivering the 'big society'. The team found that, if community groups are to be involved in delivering 'big society', policies to engage people in community action need to be informed by a more sophisticated understanding of how and why community organisations operate.
