Little Theatre celebrates 15 years with John Godber comedy
15th March – 20th March
Doncaster Little Theatre is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month, with a wonderful evening of comedy and pathos from one of Yorkshire’s favourite dramatists. “Happy Families” is based on John Godber’s own life.
Full of warmth, understanding and humour, this is an affectionate and appealing portrait of an ordinary family struggling with change, bereavement and the generation gap. On his graduation day in 1978 John looks back over his teenage years, from 1967 - 1973, recalling all the joys and sorrows of family life in West Yorkshire. Now he finds himself alienated from his working-class family due to his intellectual and theatrical aspirations.
Directed by Janet Rimmer, the play features some of the Little Theatre regulars, whilst as always providing opportunities for new talent.
On Friday 19th March, the show is a Gala Performance, with a Champagne Supper and an opportunity to look back over 15 years of entertainment at the Little Theatre. If anyone has any memorabilia from the early days of the Little Theatre, old programmes, photos, etc, please contact the theatre if you are willing to lend them for a display.
