OXFAM INVITES YOU TO CLIMATE CHANGE HEARING IN DONCASTER

Over 160,000 people across 19 countries have so far attended climate hearings and shared with Oxfam the impact climate change is having on their lives. We are now thrilled to be coming to Doncaster to hear from local people how climate change is impacting on them.

Communities across the globe are being affected every day by the devastating consequences of climate change and the UK is no different. We know Doncaster has suffered from an increase in gale force winds and unpredictable weather patterns, and the floods in 2007 destroyed many homes. We are holding a climate hearing in Doncaster to capture these local stories on film, in the media and on blogs, to help us influence the UK government and international leaders to go further in fighting climate change and protect vulnerable communities.

This December Copenhagen will host the UN conference on climate change. This is the most important event of the year and the outcomes will affect every person on the planet. Future generations will live with the consequences of the decisions made by a small number of people at this conference. By holding climate hearings, Oxfam is able to capture the views of the public and share them with world leaders. We will hold an international Hearing in Copenhagen before the conference and your story could be told alongside others from around the world. Your voice could influence the outcomes of this monumental event.

What will happen at the event and how can I get involved?
• Oxfam will provide an insight into how vulnerable communities in developing countries are being affected by climate change
• A guest speaker from the Environment Agency will talk about the affects of climate change on Doncaster including the latest future projections.
• A selection of local people will share their personal experiences of climate change in Doncaster – you too can tell your story.
• Local groups such as Friends of the Earth will lead a discussion on how people can get involved locally in campaigning and environmental activities
• Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a campaign action to tell Ed Miliband what they want him to do locally, nationally and globally on climate change
• Doncaster Community Arts are planning creative ways to involve you during the event and there will be displays to browse about climate change, locally and globally.

This is a free event and it will take place on Friday 27th November, 5pm to 8pm (welcome and buffet from 4.15pm) at Bentley Pavilion DN5 0HU.
