DtS Board Election
We are seeking a third sector representative to become a member of the Discover the Spirit (DtS) Board.
The DtS Board is the main board in Discover the Spirit Partnership, Doncaster’s Local Strategic Partnership. The board is chaired by the Mayor and oversees the work of the whole DtS partnership.
The Community Empowerment Network is seeking a representative to fulfil this key role, making a real difference on behalf of the sector; we hope that you will consider nominating a candidate from your organisation.

Note to Prospective Candidates
Please refer to the role description and board summary in order to make clear the links between your experience and the work of the board.
We also recommend that nomination forms and supporting statements are submitted as far in advance of the closing deadline as possible, so that any required amendments can be made in plenty of time.

Stronger & Sustainable Doncaster Sub-Board Elections
We are seeking third sector representatives to become members of three new sub-boards, which have been created to support the Stronger & Sustainable Doncaster Board within the Discover the Spirit Partnership. The new sub-boards are:
- Stronger Communities, focussing on community engagement, equalities and the third sector
- Stronger Places, focussing on the arts and culture
- Sustainable Environment, focussing on local environmental issues

Stronger and Sustainable Doncaster Board - Election 2009
We are delighted to announce that Marisa Graziano of Doncaster West Development Trust and Lai Lim of Doncaster Central Learning Centre have been appointed as CEN representatives on the new Stronger and Sustainable Doncaster Board. The Board is part of Doncaster’s Local Strategic Partnership and will consider issues such as improving:
- Support to the third sector in Doncaster
- Environmental sustainability
- Equality of opportunity
- Arts and culture

New Nominations for Second Representative Place Now Being Sought
One representative place on the new board remains available; we are therefore re-opening nominations and seeking an individual from a third sector organisation that would be interested in contributing to the work of the board. The board will initially meet once every two months.
The deadline for nominations is Friday 2nd October 2009 at 4pm.

We are delighted to be able to announce the results of the recent CEN elections to the Discover the Spirit Partnership. The election this year was very successful, with an excellent turnout and some tightly contested races. The successful candidates are as follows:
Discover the Spirit Board
- Joyce Foster, YWCA
Safer Doncaster Board
- Annie Farrand, ThorneMoor Working Group
- Penny Flintoff, Doncaster Rape & Sexual Abuse Counselling Service
Enterprising Doncaster Board
- Alan Bell, North Doncaster Development Trust
- Judith Smith, Doncaster CSEP CIC
Healthier Doncaster Board
- Jackie Lewis, Doncaster MIND
All representatives are elected until March 2011.
Healthier Doncaster Election Run-Off
An extremely close contest between the five candidates resulted in a tie for second place in the Healthier Doncaster election. We are therefore required to hold a run off contest between the two tied candidates, Diane Derbyshire from YWCA and Maddie O’Sullivan from South Yorkshire Centre for Inclusive Living (SYCIL). Our deadline for this election is 4pm on Friday 17 July 2009.

Ballot Opens for 2009 Elections
The ballot has now opened for the 2009 community empowerment network elections which will determine third sector representation on the DtS Board, Enterprising Doncaster Board and Healthier Doncaster Board. These elections are an important aspect of the community empowerment agenda. It is an opportunity for your organisation to help determine who will be representing your interests at strategic level over the next two years. To exercise this right as a CEN member, all that you will need to do is complete and return the ballot paper.

activity is directed where it is needed the most. The Board meets approximately every six
weeks.

The Healthier Doncaster theme Board maintains a strategic overview of health and social
care issues in Doncaster and acts as the link to the Doncaster Discover the Spirit Board
for the health and social care community. The board meets quarterly.

Safer Doncaster Board
Two people from the sector were nominated as candidates for the Safer Doncaster Board. As there are two places available for the third sector on the Safer Doncaster Board, there is no requirement to hold a ballot. We are therefore pleased to announce the following successful candidates who will take up the position of CEN representative on the Safer Doncaster Board at the end of June 2009:

Nominations
Third Sector Representatives undertake a vital role, providing the 'voice' of the sector when local issues are discussed with partners such as the Council, Police and NHS Doncaster. The role of a third sector representative is to advocate and articulate the views of the sector on strategic boards and at other important meetings and events within the borough.
We are currently holding elections for Community Empowerment Network (CEN) Representatives on the following boards:
DtS Board - 1 Place
The DtS Board oversees the Discover the Spirit partnership as a whole and makes sure that effort and activity is directed where it is needed the most. The Board meets approximately every six weeks.
Safer Doncaster Board - 2 places
Safer Doncaster is Doncaster’s Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership. This is a statutory body comprising of responsible authorities namely; Police, Local Authority, Primary Care Trust, Police Authority, and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority also including other statutory and voluntary agencies that work together to reduce crime and disorder in Doncaster.
Enterprising Doncaster Board - 2 places
Enterprising Doncaster is the private-sector led partnership that takes a lead on the work, skills and enterprise priorities for the borough.
Healthier Doncaster Board - 2 places
The Healthier Doncaster Board is responsible for all issues of health and well being across the Borough. This specific Theme Board is directly responsible for the targets and outcomes in the Healthier Communities and Vulnerable People section of Doncaster’s Local Area Agreement (LAA).
Compact Monitoring and Implementation Group - 4 places
This group will oversee the implementation, monitoring and review, and future development of Doncaster’s Compact.
